€7k yearling purchase Cry Fiction followed up her debut win with a second place in the £40k Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket for owner Ruffles Racing.

Ridden again by Rob Hornby she was drawn the opposite side of the track to the winning favourite from Godolphin and was no match for that filly but still pulled four lengths clear of the third.
